A Spotty Dotty Washi

Here's my first ever finished top: a polka dot Washi Dress cut to tunic length.

I've got some beautiful chambray to make a dress, but, wisely as it turns out, I decided to make a wearable muslin with this Robert Kaufman cotton instead.

With help from the lovely folk on IG, I managed to make something vaguely wearable, but there'll be some significant changes on the dress version. I'm now beginning to understand why it's so difficult to get petite clothing on the high street!

  2. You've done a great job. I'm too scared to try it as I've heard it's not good if you have a bust and no dress making experience :-)

  3. I am proud of you! I have had a top on my sewing wishlist for 2 years but am terrified! I have everything to do it too! Yours came out very nice good luck on your dress! Try to do it during Selfish Sewing Week in March that is when I will make a shirt or ruin some nice material!

  4. brilliant. I'm about to have my first go at making a mortmain dress and am using an old sheet first so as not to ruin my lovely indelible fabric from the get go.

  8. Looks great! I really want to learn to sew for myself as my weird shape (tiny boobs, massive flabby arms, three baby belly) make finding clothes on the high street a nightmare. What's making me stall is knowing that I'll have to alter any pattern to accommodate my little quirks. Oh, being addicted to chocolate and therefore a size twenty doesn't help either!

  9. It looks really god Sarah - I think you've done a fab job. I'm stlll not fully happy with my washi that I made. The bodice that I made just isn't quite right. I think my issue is that i need to do a Small Bust Adjustment which looking at the alterations you made you might need to do to, although I'm by no means an expert! I believe most patterns are based on a B cup: if you measure under your arms/top of the bust and then your full bust and take this away from your first measurment. If the difference is <1" you probably need to do a SBA, if it's >2" you probably need to do a FBA. Apologies if you know all this already, I've been reading up about it all too much and just had to share!!!! Sx
